Sport, Swimming & Fitness

All children regularly participate in a wide range of sports and fitness including Jump Jam and PE skills development. Lunch-time activities can include soccer, netball and touch rugby.  Friday is ‘Sports Day’ where all the children participate in their house teams. Each House team is made up of a mixture of children from across each school ropu. Siblings are always assigned to the same house team.

All children are expected to participate in the sport and fitness activities.

Swimming

The school pool is being decommissioned because the Pohutukawa tree roots keep breaking it and it is too expensive to maintain.  Therefore we organise swimming lessons at the Hilton Brown Swim School at YouthTown in Nelson Street for the children.

In Term 1 the Year 1-4 children will have 4 lessons.  The Year 5 & 6 children will have water experiences on their school camp in March.  In Term 4 the all children will have 4 lessons.  There is a cost for each block of 4 lessons.  This includes the lesson and transport both ways by the YouthTown bus.

The Hilton Brown Swim School keeps records about the children's swimming level, so each time they attend they are in a group according to their ability.  We are working with the swim school to introduce a 'Survival Skills' programme for those senior children who are very competent swimmers.

Information (including cost) will be sent home in the school newsletter.  Payment will be needed at least two weeks before lesson starts.

If you have any concerns about your child participating, please talk to Heather Rewiri our Deputy School Principal.
